Yo, what’s good? It’s ya boy Dan and today we’re talking about weed in the Bahamas. So, listen up, my peeps!
If you’re thinking of rolling up a fat joint or taking a hit of your favorite strain while chillin’ on the beautiful Bahamian beaches, think again. Weed is NOT legal in the Bahamas, my friends. In fact, it’s classified as a dangerous drug under their laws. So before you light up, make sure you know the cannabis laws in the country, ya dig?
The Bahamas used to be a hot spot for drug trafficking back in the day, but now they’re tough on cannabis. Possession of even an ounce of weed can get you hit with a fine of up to $125,000 or 10 years of jail time. And if you’re caught selling to a child or young adult, you’re looking at $750,000 or 40 years in prison. These laws are no joke, my friends.
But don’t lose hope just yet. The people of the Bahamas are pushing for medical marijuana legalization. In fact, a survey conducted in 2018 showed that 71% of Bahamians want at least medical marijuana legalization. The government is currently working on legislation to legalize medicinal marijuana so that it can be grown, utilized, and even exported by Bahamians.
The proposed Medicinal Cannabis Bill 2021 establishes a Medicinal Cannabis Authority to supervise and enforce regulations around the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes. People over 21 years old will be eligible to apply for licenses for manufacturing, research, cultivation, import, export, and transport of cannabis materials strictly for medicinal use. But it’s important to note that recreational use is still illegal.
Some people say that getting weed in Nassau is possible if you know where to look. But we’re not here to condone or promote illegal activities.
So there you have it, folks. Weed is not legal in the Bahamas…yet. But with the pending Medicinal Cannabis Bill and growing support for legalization, it looks like the future is bright for cannabis reform on the island nation. Keep your eyes peeled for updates and stay educated on the laws before you take any risks.
Peace out!
