Yo, what’s good? My name’s Dan and I got some news for all you CBD lovers out there. You ever crack open a cold one with the boys and catch a whiff of that dank herb? Well, turns out that cannabis and hops are related AF. And now, researchers from Cali done gone and bred a new type of hops that’s rich in CBD, just like weed and hemp.
This new strain is called Humulus kriya – catchy name, right? – and it produces up to 18% CBD, along with terpenes like humulene and beta-caryophyllene. The folks at Peak Health Foundation in San Fran found CBD in hops from Asia over ten years ago, and they’ve been working on breeding this new strain ever since. And guess what? They finally did it.
The result is a brand-new CBD oil that ain’t derived from weed or hemp. Medical Marijuana Inc. just launched Real Scientific Humulus Oil (RSHO-K), which contains under 1% CBD. That might not sound like much, but it’s still a solid option for folks who can’t access CBD oils derived from cannabis or hemp.
See, the legal framework surrounding hops is way more chill than the one around weed or hemp. Hops are legal all over the world – even the Food and Drug Administration in the US thinks hop extracts are “generally regarded as safe.” But cannabis? That’s a whole other story. Hemp oils are legal in all 50 states, but CBD oils derived from cannabis are still federally illegal substances.
So, this Humulus oil is a game-changer for people who want to try CBD but can’t get their hands on anything else. Sure, most CBD oils contain at least 2% CBD, which is double what’s in this Humulus oil. But hey, beggars can’t be choosers, am I right?
Dr. Bomi Joseph, Director of Peak Health Foundation, said he was looking to work with CBD that didn’t come from weed or hemp. He did some digging and found that some hops from Asia had trace amounts of cannabinoids. From there, he and his team bred a new strain that produces high levels of CBD.
Now, this is just the beginning. Who knows how this will affect CBD breeding, extraction, and distribution in the long run? Especially now that weed is finally being legalized left and right. But it’s still a pretty dope step forward in understanding cannabinoids and their complexities.
So go ahead, crack open a cold one and take a whiff. Who knows? Maybe you’re smelling more than just hops – maybe you’re smelling the future of CBD.
