Homeschooling

Our homeschooling journey began almost 13 years ago, when my eldest daughter entered kindergarten. Now she is finishing up her senior year and studying for a farrier course she will start in the spring. How time flies!

We use a sort of eclectic mix of materials, mostly self created and inspired mostly by Charlotte Mason and the Principle Approach. The most inspiring and helpful bit of homeschooling advice I have ever received was at a small conference by Katherine Dang in which she encouraged us to teach according to Isaiah 28:10.

“For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.”

This idea, to take my children alongside me to teach them “here a little, there a little” has profoundly influenced my homeschooling and my parenting as I strive to slow down, appreciate now and inspire my children to explore the world and reflect on all they are learning.

And that is what I write about here at Roscommon Acres: Slow down. Learn from life. Appreciate life.

And grow just a little bit every day.

  1. I want to tell you what a blessing it was to run across your webpage. We are in the Ministry as well as have a farm, also a business and are now raising more than our youngest who is almost 16 & home schooled. We are now caring for grandchildren who where placed with us. I have added the youngest to the homeschooling list to see how it would work with 2 due to the age and it has been a while since I have had more than one child home schooled. God is so faithful and always on time, thank you for what you are sharing, wonderful to find those with similar hearts desire to truly pour into our children so they become well rounded adults.

    1. Thank you, Lana! That has to be hard to be thrust back into it, but a blessing too, that you are there for your grandchildren!
