This is a sponsored review by BlogHer and Purina.
I was very excited at the opportunity to review Purina’s ProPlan Selects, at first just because it’s dog food and with four large dogs, we go through a ton of dog food.
Ever-observant — especially when it comes to food — Faithful checks out the boxes while I learn a little more about dog food and nutrition.

We have always looked at two things when it comes to dog food: price and the serving size. Cheaper dog foods tend to contain more fillers and after feeding an extra cup per serving often do not actually save you much money.
But I never really thought about it much beyond that. After all, it’s dog food, right?
As soon as the bags were opened, the dogs dived right into the research.

They had no complaints. They like dog food. Faithful (the brown one) even accepted handfuls of kibble in lieu of treats at training time. But then, that dog works for the sheer joy of working.
But our dogs are a little more than “just” pets. Yes, they are our companions, and that is a significant role in any family. But they also have jobs to do and they need a diet that can supply them the energy they need for their activity levels.
OK, Zane is usually a little more well-behaved than that, but you just never know when you are working with animals. And that smile makes it all worth while.
And whether they always listen to us or not, our animals are important to us and we do want to give them the best of what we can afford. When I look at the Purina ProPlan Selects, I like that real meat is its first listed ingredient and that there are other quality proteins in the ingredient list. I like that it doesn’t contain corn, wheat or soy as fillers and that there are no artificial colorings, flavors or preservatives. I especially like that it is made in the USA. It provides them the nutrients they need to keep up with their jobs here, to play with the children and to sleep at my feet in the evening when the house is quiet. If you would like to try some for yourself, Purina is offering a $3.00 coupon from their website.

I homeschool my children on a small hobby farm in rural Nebraska and write about life more abundantly, from the joy of a baby's smile to the almost unbearable grief of losing a son while seeking beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of the spirit of despair (Isaiah 61:3)

We have three dogs like you, two of which are rescues. Our most recent addition came to us just after Thanksgiving this year. We were on our way home and stopped at the grocery store for a couple of items. There in the parking lot was this miniature lab type of dog. He was approaching everyone going in or out to say hi. He was so sweet! It was in the teens at night during this time and we just couldn’t leave him there. The employees at the store said he had been there for several days. We took him with the intention of finding a home. Well, we did that. He’s still here almost 6 months later! He is just too special to part with! He a chocolate lab in everything but his size. He only weighs about 35 pounds and is about half as tall. Very cool! His name is Hershey and we all love him.
I blogged about your review and giveaway on my blog. Thanks!

My parents live with us and have 2 dogs. They are such wonderful companions for our children and they serve as “protectors” always letting us know when someone or something is coming to visit.
Oh my! Our pets ARE family. We have two dogs inside and one big dog outside that my son babies and lets “sneak” in. We have a chihuahua, a chiweinie, and a mountain curr. My son will sing to them and it is so cute. They are the best company and therapists alive. We All love to hold them and rub their bellies when we are sad, upset, And even scared.

We have an almost 8-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. He has seen us through most of our marriage so far, 2 children, and a near-fatal and very expensive incident involving a piece of corn cob becoming lodged in his intestine…yes, he is very special!
