home made teething biscuitIf there is one thing my baby loves, it is teething biscuits.  Quick and easy, they seem to be the perfect snack for our little baby on the go, except one thing:  they are expensive!  None of my other children ever had any for that reason alone, but Little Mudpuppy has the advantage of being ten months old while we are busy moving.

Convenience suddenly trumped frugality, at least for a couple of crazy weeks.

We’re past that now, but Mudpuppy still loves his teething biscuits.  He got some in his stocking, but mommy isn’t willing to continue to spend three dollars and up for those little boxes of biscuits.  But then I hand him one of his little Mum Mum’s and his little eyes shine and he gobbles them down with such enthusiasm, I can’t help but count how many he has left.

But there really isn’t much to a teething biscuit, part of why it is so frustrating to pay so much for them.  So I was struck with the idea to make our own.  The first batch turned out pretty well, and he loves them just as much as the store bought ones.

Make your own teething biscuits:

1 cup flour
1 cup dry infant cereal
Apple juice

Mix the flour and cereal.  Stir in apple juice until you have a thick batter that can be rolled and shaped.  Turn out on a lightly floured surface, knead lightly and add additional flour/infant cereal as necessary.  Roll the dough and cut into shapes or strips.

Bake at 350 for twenty to thirty minutes, or until they are golden brown.

And finally my baby has a nutritious and convenient and affordable snack.

*Always watch your baby while they eat!

Yes, simple is the best! Especially when it comes to what you are feeding your baby, not to mention when you are cooking it.
